Equality Act 2006 (received Royal Assent 16 Feb 06)

Sets up new Commission for Equality and Human Rights to replace Equal Opportunities Commission, Commission for Racial Equality and Disability Rights Commission by October 2007. Arranges for. The Equality Act also sets up new provisions regarding discrimination on grounds of both religion and sexual orientation, and amends the Disability Discrimination Act. Importantly, also imposes duties to avoid sex discrimination on those who perform public functions.
